AC Joint Injury Treatment in Gorey

The acromioclavicular (AC) joint is located at the top of the shoulder where the collarbone meets the shoulder blade. Injuries to this joint often occur following a fall directly onto the shoulder. See our Shoulder Pain page for a broader overview.

Symptoms of AC Joint Injury

Symptoms may include:

  • Pain at the top of the shoulder
  • Tenderness when touching the joint
  • Pain lifting the arm
  • Swelling around the joint

AC joint injuries are common in sports such as rugby and GAA, and in cycling accidents.

Physiotherapy Treatment

Treatment focuses on restoring movement and strength in the shoulder. Physiotherapy may include:

  • Manual therapy
  • Rehabilitation exercises
  • Strengthening of the shoulder muscles
  • Return-to-sport rehabilitation

See also our Sports Injuries page for more on getting back to training and competition.

Book a Shoulder Assessment

If you have injured your shoulder in a fall or tackle, an assessment will guide a safe recovery and return to sport.
