Orthotics & Gait Analysis

Orthotics & Gait Analysis in Gorey

Biomechanics Behind Your Pain

Biomechanical issues are often the cause of gradual-onset pain and injury. Orthotics and gait analysis at Physio Solutions can help identify these issues.

During your physiotherapy assessment, we may look at how you move and whether this is contributing to your injury.

Temporary & customOrthotics to suit your needs

What Are Orthotics?

Orthotics are devices that are placed in your shoes, boots or runners. They correct abnormal biomechanics that can cause stress, strain and injury.

When you walk, the first point of contact with the ground is your feet. If the foot rolls too far one way or the other, this causes a chain reaction up your lower limb, into your hip and into your lower back. The body compensates for the misalignment, which can cause pain anywhere in the lower limb and back.

Temporary or Custom-Made?

We offer both temporary and custom-made orthotic devices depending on your requirements and budget.

  • Temporary orthotics – if you present with an injury, a temporary orthotic may be all that’s needed for a short period to offload the injured or overworked area and allow the tissues to recover. Once pain resolves and function is restored, these are often no longer required.
  • Custom-made orthotics – a more permanent, robust solution to ongoing problems, though more expensive.

We can discuss the merits of both during your assessment.

Conditions It Can Help

Gait analysis and orthotics can be part of the treatment for foot and lower limb problems such as plantar fasciitis, tibialis posterior tendon dysfunction, shin splints and runner’s knee. See our Foot & Ankle Pain and Running Injuries pages.
