Return to Sport Testing & Sports Injury Assessment

Expert assessment, treatment and rehabilitation from our Chartered Physiotherapists in Gorey.

Return to Sport Testing in Gorey

Returning to sport after injury is one of the most important – and often most overlooked – stages of recovery. We combine detailed assessment with objective strength and performance testing to determine when your body is truly ready to return to training and competition.

Rather than relying on pain alone, we use measurable data to guide rehabilitation and reduce the risk of re-injury. Our goal is to help you return to sport safely, confidently and performing at your best. See also our Sports Injuries page.

Our Approach: Assess, Strengthen, Test, Return

Assess – identify the injury and contributing factors.

Strengthen – rebuild strength, control and resilience.

Test – measure performance and readiness.

Return – safely progress back to sport.

This ensures you are not just pain-free, but physically prepared for the demands of your sport.

Accurate Injury Assessment

The first step is understanding exactly what has been injured and why. Your assessment may include movement and mobility testing, strength assessment, sport-specific movement analysis and identification of contributing factors. This allows us to create a clear rehabilitation plan tailored to your sport and goals.

Objective Strength & Performance Testing

We assess muscle strength, limb symmetry (injured vs uninjured side), balance and control, and functional performance. This allows us to identify hidden weakness, track progress, guide progression and determine readiness for return to sport.

Why Strength Symmetry Matters

After injury, the affected limb is often weaker – even when pain has settled. Returning to sport with strength deficits increases the risk of re-injury, ongoing pain and reduced performance.

Testing allows us to ensure your strength and control are restored before returning to full activity.

Common Situations We Help With

This service is particularly valuable if you:

  • Are returning to sport after ACL injury or surgery
  • Have had a knee, ankle or muscle injury
  • Feel unsure or lack confidence returning to sport
  • Want to reduce the risk of re-injury
  • Are not progressing as expected in rehab

Return to Sport After ACL & Knee Injuries

ACL and knee injuries require careful progression before returning to sport. Even when the knee feels “fine”, strength and performance deficits often remain. We assess quadriceps and hamstring strength, limb symmetry, movement control and functional performance to guide safe progression and give you confidence returning to training and competition.

Rehabilitation & Progression

Testing is part of a structured rehabilitation process. Many patients progress through individual physiotherapy, gym-based rehabilitation and our small group Gym Rehab and ACL Rehab classes to rebuild strength and prepare for the physical demands of their sport.
