Strength Class for Women

This class is specifically designed for women in their 50’s and up. It is a strengthening class which focuses on whole body strength, functional movements (lifting, squatting, rotating), balance and  coordination. 

As women go through perimenopause and menopause there is a substantial change in hormone levels in the body, specifically oestrogen and progesterone. The lowering of oestrogen in the female body during and after menopause puts women at higher risk of tendon injuries (tendonitis), bone injuries (fractures or gradual onset of osteopenia and osteoporosis) and muscle weakness. The exercises in this class will help you to build muscle strength, increase bone density and reduce the effects of osteopenia and osteoporosis.

Resistance exercises include bodyweight exercises, lifting weights and using resistance bands which will all help to build strength. There are also balance exercises included, as the research shows that improved strength and balance will reduce risk of falls and therefore reduce the risk of fractures.

Classes are 1 hour long and run in 7-week blocks, costing €140.
